It was a long time coming ... in May of this year one of my all-time favorite bands rolled into town ... The Cure.
A pretty cool Punk Rock Group called Twilight Sad from Scotland opened for them. They put on a good set. Front man James Graham put on a heck of a performance.
That night however was all about The Cure as they came on stage around 8:30 and didn’t finish until almost 11:30. Lead vocalist Robert Smith is filled with energy along with some great (funny) facial expressions. The show was long and covered over 30 years of classic hits. Along with their set list, there were three encores each included 4-5 songs.
Robert Smith, guitarist and lead singer, is the sole original member of the Cure which has seen a number of band members since its inception. Personally, Robert Smith is The Cure … he reminds me of Brian Johnson previous lead singer of ACDC … they both have the most recognizable voices … you simply can’t clone them.
It was great to see now even at age 57 Robert Smith, still pours on the white make-up, red lipstick along with his wild hair style as he ripped through song after song just like he did 30 + years ago.
Like most Cure fans anticipation for The Cure’s current North American Tour has been nothing short of satisfying … for the 22,000 fans on hand at Shoreline that night, I really don’t think anyone walked away disappointed.
Some songs from their set list included:
“In Between Days” from The Head on the Door 1985
“Want” from Wild Mood Swings 1996
The first encore included a few of my favorites:
“Play for Today” and “A Forest” from Seventeen Seconds 1980
I really feel like I got my monies worth that night … most bands will have a set list they will use for their entire tour … The Cure jammed 35 songs into the night.
Needless to say it will go down as one of the best tours of 2016!
